Questions
How eligibility is decided
How do lenders calculate eligibility?
Most Indian lenders use FOIR — Fixed Obligation to Income Ratio. They add up all your existing EMIs and the proposed EMI, and require the total to stay within 50–55% of your net monthly income. They also check credit score, age, employment stability and, for secured loans, the value of the collateral.
Why does a longer tenure increase my eligibility?
A longer tenure spreads repayment over more months, which lowers the EMI for the same principal. Since eligibility is capped by the EMI you can afford, a lower EMI means a larger sanctionable principal.
Can I include a co-applicant's income?
Yes — for home loans and LAP especially, adding a spouse or parent as co-applicant combines incomes and can substantially raise eligibility. The co-applicant's existing obligations are also counted, so it cuts both ways.
My existing EMIs are high — what can I do?
Options include consolidating smaller loans into one cheaper loan, closing small-ticket loans before applying, extending an existing tenure to lower its EMI, or applying with a co-applicant. We can run these scenarios with you before you apply.
